Double Chocolate Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk  
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 3 egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • 2 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Double Chocolate Ice Cream

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Combine sugar, milk, salt and cocoa powder in saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Bring to a simmer.

Step 2

Place egg yolks into small bowl and gradually stir in about ½ cup of hot liquid. Return to saucepan and heat until thickened. Do not boil. Remove from heat and stir in chopped chocolate until melted.

Step 3

Pour into a chilled bowl and refrigerate for about 2 hours until cold, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

When chocolate mixture has completely cooled, stir in cream and vanilla and pour it into an ice cream maker. Freeze according to manufacturer’s directions.
