Chicken Chop Suey
Ingredients
- ¼ cup shortening
- 8 ounces chicken breast, thinly sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, grated
- 1 cup diced onion
- 1 cup diced celery
- ½ red pepper, sliced
- ½ bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can bean sprouts, drained and rinsed
- ⅓ cup cold water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Heat shortening in large, deep skillet and sear chicken, until color is white.
Step 2
Add garlic, stir quickly and then add onions. Cook for 1 minute or until onions have started to wilt.
Step 3
Add celery, hot water, salt and peppers.
Step 4
Cover skillet and simmer for more 5 minutes. Then add sprouts and bring to a boil.
Step 5
In small bowl combine cold water, cornstarch, soy sauce, sugar and mix it all together. Then add it to the skillet mixture.
Step 6
Cook for 5 minutes, or until thickened to taste and serve over hot rice.
